The Stepping Stone

Walking up to the garden gate
where we once lived
so many years ago
and if I close my eyes (tightly enough)
I can see you
and if I close my eyes (tightly enough)
I can see you

Sorry for all the hell I put you through
that made you lie awake at night
and if i close my eyes (tightly enough)
I can see you
Repeat.

And papa sitting here
with my thoughts tonight
and you sitting with yours
a thousand miles away
And papa don't you feel
our lives are just slipping away
and theres so much
we need to say

I remember you placing
a stepping stone
So I could reach the handle on the gate
you placed that stone with love and care
to help me get to places
when you wer'nt there.
and if i close my eyes(tightly enough)
I can see you
Repeat.

And papa I feel so hollow
without you here with me
and papa don't you feel
our lives are just slipping away
and theres so much we need to say

Now I lie awake
listening to little heart beats
echoing around the rooms of my home
and for each one of them
like you did...
I will place a stone.
